The NASA/TOGA COARE FTP Site
TOGA COARE (Tropical Ocean Global Atmospheres/Coupled Ocean Atmosphere Response Experiment) is an international research program investigating the scientific phenomena associated with the interaction between the atmosphere and the ocean in the warm pool region of the western Pacific. The field experiment phase of the program took place from November, 1992 through February, 1993 and involved the deployment of oceanographic ships and buoys, several ship and land based Doppler radars, multiple low and high level aircraft equipped with Doppler radar and other airborne sensors, as well as a variety of surface based instruments for in situ observations.
NASA/TOGA COARE data sets are archived either on an FTP site or in the DAAC tape library, depending on data volume. Both may be obtained through this web site. The FTP site is organized first by platform then by instrument:
Aircraft - instruments aboard NASA's high-altitude ER-2 and mid-altitude DC-8 aircraft
Assimilation or Model - 4-D Assimilation subsetted for TOGA COARE
Satellite - images and data derived from satellite observations
Ships - data from radars mounted aboard research vessels
Surface radiation - Island station data at Penn State
The NASA component of TOGA COARE, while contributing directly to overall COARE objectives, emphasized scientific objectives associated with the Tropical Rainfall Measuring Mission (TRMM), and NASA's Cloud and Radiation Program.
