Begin your search for Data Sets by entering keywords into the search box entry form and hitting either the enter key or clicking on the button. See Search Rules for rules on structuring your search terms.
Keywords can be used to search for Data Products based on:
- Platform Short Name (e.g., Aqua, Aura, TRMM, ...)
- Sensor Short Name (e.g., TRMM, GPM, AIRS, OMI, ..)
- Product Short Name (e.g., AIRS3QP5, OMAERUV, ... )
- Measurement/parameter (e.g., temperature, precipitation, ozone,...)
- Project Name (e.g., MEaSUREs, MERRA, ...)
The keyword search capability on the GES DISC Web Portal supports the following search query syntax:
- Not case sensitive (e.g. typing omi or OMI will return the same results)
- Supports plural mapping (e.g., temperatures temperature, properties property )
- Does not currently support wildcarding (*)
Searching on multiple wordsTo search on multiple optional keywords use spaces to separate search terms.
Example, AIRS OMI TRMM, searches for data sets matching "AIRS" OR "OMI" OR "TRMM"
To search for datasets that contain ALL required keywords, enclose the words in double quotes.
Example, "GPM precipitation", returns datasets that contain "GPM" AND "precipitation"
To search for required and optional keywords use a combination of quoted and non-quoted keywords.
Example, "atmospheric radiation" clouds aerosols, searches for all data sets containing "atmospheric" AND "radiation" AND ("clouds" OR "aerosols")
Excluding words from search resultsTo exclude specific keywords from a search, prefix the word with a hyphen "-".
Example, AIRS -clouds -aerosols, searches for all data sets matching AIRS and will not include any that include "clouds" OR "aerosols"
Example, "trmm microwave imager" -clouds, searches for all data sets containing "trmm" AND "microwave" AND "imager" AND will not include any that include "clouds"
Use Refine By to narrow your search result by filtering on various facets such as Science Disciplines, Measurements, Spatial and Temporal Resolution. The list of available facet groupings and facets that appear under "Refine By" depends on the keywords entered into the search box. To apply facet filtering simply click the checkbox next to the facet and the search results will dynamically update. A count is displayed alongside each facet to indicate the number of search results. To aid you in finding filter criteria, the facet groups can be sorted either by alphabetical order (ascending or descending) or by result count (ascending or descending).
For facet groups that contain many items, click the link to see the complete list.
SortingSearch results can be sorted to help you find what you are looking for. Columns with a icon can be sorted in ascending or descending order by clicking on the column heading. The current search results sort order is indicated by either the ascending or descending icons in the column heading.
Browse thumbnails provide a visual representation of the data product. Placing your mouse cursor over the thumbnail displays a full size version of the image. Clicking on the browse image brings up the Data Set Landing page which provides a description of the data set, summary information, documentation and links to access and download the data set.
To access data, click on either the Browse Thumbnail or Data Set name for a product in the list of search results. You will be directed to the product's Data Set Landing page which provides a description, summary information, documentation and data access. The Data Access panel lists all available services for accessing and downloading the data.
